Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), Viluppuram was established in 1996 under G.O.Ms.No.156 Home (POL XVI) Dept., dated 01.02.1996. It was under the administrative control of Deputy Director RFSL, Viluppuram undertakes the examination of physical evidences recovered from the Scene of Crime to assist crime investigation and law enforcement. Forensic examinations are carried out in the fields of Biology, Narcotics, Prohibition and Toxicology. Cases are received from the Courts, Medical Officers and Crime Investigation Officers (rank of DSP and above) under the jurisdiction of Vilupuram and Cuddalore Districts. The Forensic Scientists depose expert evidence in the Court of Law to help the judiciary in delivering the justice. There are two Mobile Forensic Science Laboratory (MFSL) under the control of RFSL, Viluppuram (Cuddalore & Viluppuram) This Laboratory imparts training to in-service forensic scientists, Police Personnel and Medical Officers. It organizes in house seminars and guest lecture to update the recent trends in Forensic Science. The scientists from this Laboratory underwent training to various organizations in National Level to enrich their knowledge.
