The Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Thanjavur was incepted in the year 1976 as per GO Ms.No.1191 (Home) dated 04.08.1976. It is under the administrative control of Deputy Director. RFSL, Thanjavur undertakes the examination of physical evidences recovered from the Scene of Crime to assist crime investigation and law enforcement. Forensic examinations are carried out in the fields of Biology, Narcotics, Prohibition and Toxicology. Cases are received from the Courts, Medical Officers and Crime Investigation Officers (rank of DSP and above) under the jurisdiction of Thanjavur,Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam Districts. The Forensic Scientists depose expert evidence in the Court of Law to help the judiciary in delivering the justice. There are three Mobile Forensic Science Laboratories (MFSL) under the control of RFSL, Thanjavur(Thanjavur,Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam). This Laboratory imparts training to in-service forensic scientists, Police Personnel and Medical Officers. The scientists from this Laboratory underwent training at various organizations in National Level to enrich their knowledge.
